Jobs, doctoral research topics, master's and bachelor's theses

If you are interested in writing your bachelor's or master's thesis in our working group, please feel free to contact us! We are always looking for motivated students who would like to conduct their research in hadron physics.

This page is regularly updated with specific projects as well as open postdoctoral and doctoral positions.

Master's thesis:
Measurement of helicity-dependent polarisation observables

We are looking for students to measure helicity-dependent polarisation observables at the GlueX experiment. Since 2023, GlueX has been collecting data with a linearly and circularly polarised photon beam for the first time. The calibrated and reconstructed data now needs to be examined more closely in order to study this new setup. The main focus of this work is on data analysis, event selection and data fitting.

Desired prior knowledge:

  • Unix (bash)
  • Programming experience (C++, bonus: Python)

Bachelor's/Master's thesis:
Simulation studies for a new beam telescope at AMBER@CERN

The next phase of data taking at the AMBER experiment at CERN requires some critical upgrades to the detector system. One necessary component is a new beam telescope which allows for precise tracking of the incoming hadron beam. As a first step, simulation studies have to be performed which will establish the detector requirements regarding time and spatial resolution.

Desired prior knowledge:

  • Unix (bash)
  • Programming experience (C++, bonus: Python)

Bachelor's/Master's thesis:
Studies on Lambda-proton scattering at INSIGHT

The new INSIGHT experiment currently being planned and set up at ELSA in Bonn will provide excellent particle identification and energy and momentum reconstruction for both neutral and charged final state particles. This work shall explore how this can be used to study Lambda-proton scattering reactions and establish potential optimisations of the experimental setup to improve that measurement.

Desired prior knowledge:

  • Unix (bash)
  • Programming experience (C++, bonus: Python)
